Sena joins the Rashtriya Janata Dal and Samajwadi Party in extending their support to the TMC, which is locked in a tense fight with a resurgent BJP.

Shiv Sena on Thursday announced that it would not contest the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections and extended support to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, calling her the “real Royal Bengal tigress”.

Sena joins the Rashtriya Janata Dal and Samajwadi Party in extending their support to the TMC, which is locked in a tense fight with a resurgent BJP.

Making the announcement, Shiv Sena leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut “at the moment, it appears to be a Didi vs All fight”. Raut said the decision was taken following discussions with the party president and Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.

“A lot of people are curious to know whether Shiv Sena is contesting West Bengal Polls or not? So here’s the update after discussions with Party President Uddhav ji Thackeray,” Raut tweeted.

“All ‘M’s – Money, Muscle, and Media are being used against ‘Mamata Didi. Hence, Shiv Sena has decided not to
contest West Bengal polls and stand in solidarity with her. We wish Mamata Didi a ‘roaring’ success, ‘cos we believe She is the real Bengal Tigress,” he further said.

On January 17, Shiv Sena had announced that it would contest the West Bengal polls. Raut had then tweeted that the “Shiv Sena is reaching Kolkata soon”.

Taking potshots at the Sena’s decision, BJP MP Manoj Kotak said the party was extending their support to Mamata Banerjee who gets irritated at chants of ‘Jai Shri Ram’.

“After an Olympic-level record of not even saving its deposit, Paper Tigers will not contest in West Bengal. But they will be extending their support to the same Mamata Didi who gets irritated at chants of ‘Jai Shri Ram’. Shiv Sena has gone far away from the ideology of Hindutva. Modi’s opponents have now also become opponents of Lord Ram. May Lord Ram save them,” the MP from Mumbai (North-east) said.
