VISAKHAPATNAM: Except one or two minor incidents, the MPTC and ZPTC elections in North Andhra regions were peaceful and registered above 60% of polling.
YSRCP and TDP cadres clashed at Tamparapalli polling station in Palakonda mandal in Srikakulam district. Cops try to bring the situation under control but the warring groups have not lent the ear. Cops send both the parties cadres from the polling station.
Srikakulam district registered a percentage of 58.37 as the polling took on a slow pace. Out of 11.17 lakh voters franchised their votes out of 19.01 lakh voters. Vizianagaram district registered 66.81% voting. Around 9.66 lakh voters franchised their vote out of 14.46 lakh voters and Denkada mandal registered highest in the district with 81.71% while Sitanagaram recorded lowest with 56.84%.
While it was 65.25% polling in Visakhapatnam district. By afternoon, 42.10% was registered in the district and in the last hours of the polling it was only 23%.
Elections were held in Srikakulam for 37 ZPTC and 590 MPTC seats. The ruling party YSRCP had already won 66 MPTC seats unanimously. Polling took place in 31 ZPTC and 487 MPTC seats in Vizianagaram. The YSRCP won three ZPTC seats and 55 MPTC seats unanimously while seven MPTC seats election was postponed due to the death of candidates in those segments.
While in Vizag, YSRCP got one ZPTC seat unanimously in Rolugunta and the contest at one seat Ananadpuram was postponed due to the death of TDP candidate. Polling took place in 37 ZPTC seats and 612 MPTC seats as the ruling party won 36 MPTC seats unanimously and an independent candidate won unanimously. While the contest for two seats was postponed.
